Did you know The Graphical Tree use a recycled satin canvas? And that it's made from discarded plastic bottles? Well, now you do, here's some more information about this eco-friendly print media.

What makes it a sustainable print?

The product, made from our media and hardware supplier partner HP, is REACH compliant and made with yarn from 100% recycled water bottles. Recycling beverage containers, and other materials, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and diverts material from landfills – so why not put unwanted plastic bottles to good use and make an eco-print media from it. In case you don't know, REACH is an important UK government initiative called Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, it aims to address the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment.

Since millions of tons of plastic are leaking into the oceans every year and 91% of plastic waste is never recycled it is an important step in the right direction to reuse bottles for other products. The canvas can also be used on our Latex ink printers (also from HP) giving us double the sustainability.

HP's Recycled Satin Canvas is also eligible for recycling through the HP large Format Media take-back program.

What is it used for?

So good is this recycled canvas it allows you to achieve an artistic look and feel for photo enlargements, reproductions, retail and hospitality interior decor and helps the Earth at the same time. You can print outstanding image quality and precise colours on this bright white, slightly textured, satin-finish canvas.

How about the cost?

This affordable canvas provides us with single-step print production, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming sealing as well as producing high-quality, very durable canvas wraps that resist edge cracking when stretched.

Is the canvas more expensive than other types of canvas? Well, yes and no. A natural cotton canvas is about the same cost, however, most of the canvas you can buy from a lot of outlets is not a canvas at all, it is a cheap polyester material which can not be recycled. Instead, it will end up in landfill and add extra waste to our planet.
