Printing for artists, photographers & illustrators

The Graphical Tree invest in technology to offer the best production service for our customers. This includes our ‘artist favourite printer’ Epson SureColor fine art inkjet, which produces archival pigment print for artists, photographers and illustrators.

Giclée prints, pronounced zhee’clay [ʒikle] are produced using inkjet technology and pigment-based inks onto archival-quality paper to create high quality, long life-time lasting fine art prints. These are perfect for photographers or artists who wish to display or sell their work as one-off, or limited edition runs.

Giclée Printing

Our giclée prints

We produce Giclée prints at 1440 dpi, with 8 passes using the Epson UltraChrome Pro 10-colour ink-set.

We use special sustainable archival quality paper with a variety of finishes and textures to choose from.

Our Giclée printers use pigment-based inks rather than dye-based inks. Pigment-based inks have a longer print lifespan and can last 65-85 years without any significant fading.

Giclee prints will outlast a traditional lithographic print and other reprographic technics by up to six times the life length.

Giclée quality

We only use a professional kit for our giclee service, the Epson SureColor 20000, which gives us a wide, maximum colour gamut, and allows us light-fastness, while producing vivid colour reproductions with brilliant saturation and depth.

Our printers also offer subtle shadow details, true blues and natural skin tones, as well as an impressive four levels of black including high-density photo and matte black inks for deeper, richer blacks and better grey balance and mid-tones than conventional inkjet prints. We also offer fantastic quality gradations with reduced graininess achieved thanks to Multi Size Droplet Technology (MSDT) and bronzing reduction to achieve accurate colours and colour fading resistance.

The printer features a K4 ink set; an impressively wide colour gamut, helping to achieve excellent lightfastness, vivid, stable colours, and intense saturation. This new ink set has been extensively tested and scientifically formulated to provide longevity, durability and water resistance.

Artwork set-up

If you are scanning artworks, please do so at least at 300dpi. If you would like to produce a larger size print from your original, scan the artwork at a larger dpi to compensate for the enlargement. Dpi halves at every doubling of print size, so an A3 print enlarged to A2 in size would require a 600 dpi scan to ensure no pixelation occurs.

For scanning of original artwork, we recommend using a professional operation such as the Packshot company. You’ll be well looked after and receive a high-quality scan suitable for giclee reproduction.

Our preferred colour profile choice for the best photographic printing is Adobe RGB (1998), (sRGB is specifically for web imagery) although we do accept files in other colour profiles, and in RGB Color, rather than CMYK. If you need help converting files, this short video is useful.

Save files as .tif if possible.

Help guide

Ensure all artwork is proportional to the size of your print request.

If you require a border around the image, please specify the width at the time of order. If no border is requested, prints will be trimmed to the artwork edge.

We check the resolution of your image file to see if it is suitable for the dimensions you want to be produced.

We aim to print confirmed orders within 48 hours, prior to despatch. Turnarounds may differ if a test print is required, for longer print runs, or if you have a specific deadline.
